Reading Letter #6
The Man Who Loved Clowns
By: June Rae Wood
Pgs: 1-25
Dear Ms. Gibson,
I am in the process of reading the The Man Who Loved Clowns. This book is by June Rae Wood. She is a very good author from what I hear. I hope to enjoy this book.
Delrita has no friends, and she wants it that way. She doesn’t want anyone to meet her uncle, Punky, who has Down syndrome and lives with her family. Although she loves him dearly, she can’t help being ashamed of him. Then, when her parents are killed in a traffic accident, and she and Punky must go to live with her aunt and uncle, everything changes. In the months that follow, Delrita learns many things, others can come to love Punky and be proud of him, that she might have misjudged her aunt, and most of all, that she wants to have friends.
This book is going really good so far. I was online the other day reading the reviews on this book. It sounds like it has a good point to it. From what I have read this book seems like it’s going to be sad. The reviews said it was based on kids my age struggling to find their place in the world. I heard from my friends that Punky dies but I don’t know if that’s true. I was reading and it the setting is in Silver Dollar City here in Branson. I thought that was really cool. I think it’s also cool that she made me feel like I am in the story. I really think she is a good author. I am excited to read the rest of the book. I also want to see if I can read some of her other books. The author I heard also lives in Missouri. I just think that is cool since we live here.
Over-all I am excited to read the rest of this book. It sounds really good! I love the characters names to! I saw that she wrote other books like, When Pigs Fly, About Face, and Turtle On A Fence Post. I am excited to read these books.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Fielder
