Title: Cool Stuff Exploded

Author: Chris Woodford

Pages: 1-243 (of 243)

This book talks about modern technology and shows some cool futuristic stuff blown apart so you can see all the parts. Ever see a bucket excavator twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty? How about a fuel cell bike that runs on hydrogen gas and only releases harmless steam? Take a look at nanorobots, robots that hunt down viruses and will eventually be small enough to inject in our bodies. Or learn about smart glasses, lenses that allow people to zoom in and out and uses satellite navigation and maps to assist those that are lost. It’s amazing how far we have come and what lies ahead.

One of the best parts of this book was learning about things that are to come in the future. For example, how cool will it be when the 3-D printer gets here. It blasts around billions of atoms, runs off water and produces a 3-D object in less than 5 minutes. This book relates to me because a lot of the things in it are everyday items you find at home. These include such things as a microwave, computer mouse, video camera, laptop, guitars, piano and more. But this book offers a fresh perspective by showing you great color pictures of all the individual parts. I thought this was a really great book. I would give it a 5 out of 5. Some of the things I didn’t really care about, such as how a trash can is made. But, the book comes with a cool CD which rotates the items and explodes them on your computer screen. Awesome. It really brings the book to life. I would recommend this book to anyone that is into technology, science and futuristic stuff.

Book: Breaking Dawn

Author: Stephanie Meyer

Pages: 1-454

I am currently reading breaking dawn. It is the last book in the Twilight series. This book is one of my favorite books out of this series, because so many interesting things are happening. Edward and Bella are deeply in love, so they are getting married. Alice Cullen prepared the wedding. She decorated the Cullen house for the wedding, and she helped get Bella ready for the wedding. Once Bella and Edward were married, they went on a honey moon, to Esme Island. The place Edward was taking Bella was a surprise, she had no idea where the were going.

They arrived there, and had a great time. They stayed for a few weeks, and had to go home, because Bella was pregnant. She was feeling very sick and they had to go back. They got on a plane, and it took them awhile to get home. Once they were home, they went to go see Carslie. He told Bella she had to drink blood, and did anything he could do help her feel better. Bella slept a lot and never felt very well. Jacob and some of the other werewolf’s were there to watch over.

This is what has gone on in the book so far. I think that it’s a great book. It is one of those books that is hard to put down because it is so good. I like how Stephanie Meyer always puts so much detail in her books, because that is what makes them so interesting. I think that everyone should read the Twilight series, because it is such a good series, and normally everyone likes all of the books. I am excited to see what is going to happen next!

Wicked- By Sara Shepard

Pages: 310/310

I have recently finished the book Wicked. It is the fifth book in the Pretty Little Liars Series. Many big things happened since my last reading letter. Spencer’s family had big banquet party at their house. This was right after Ian Thomas was accused for killing Ali. He was supposed to come to a trial, but missed it. He then went missing. At the party all of the girls got notes from “A” that lured them all outside into the woods. Spencer went out first, and while she was gone nobody could find her, so the other three went outside to try. When they finally found her, she showed them what she had found in the woods. She found Ian Thomas, dead.

That was the end of the book. I really enjoyed most parts of the book. The middle got kind of boring in parts, but the ending was amazing. Ian Thomas dying was a big deal, and that really made me want to read the next book in the series. I have some questions though. Who killed Ian and why? Who is sending the A notes, now that Ian is dead? Did Ian really kill Ali? When they went out into the woods, I thought that Ian might be out there alive and trying to hurt them. I am glad that they didn’t die because that would really twist up the story. Again, I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anybody!

Runner

Carl Deuker

216/216

I read the book Runner. The book was about a boy named Chance who’s still in school and his dads a drunk. They live on a tiny sail bout named the Tiny Dancer. Chances dad can’t hold a steady job and Chance doesn’t make enough at the job he is out to pay the bills. So one day a fat guy that works at the Marina comes up to Chance and asks him if he wants to make some easy money. Chance listens and the guy tells him all you have to do is run down to the beach wearing a backpack and look in the cracks in the rocks to see if there are any packages. If so put them into your backpack and run back to the docks. When you get back put the backpack in the locker and go back to your normal life.  This went fine for a while but then there start to get some strange packages. They were squishy and had no smell. The fat guy told him to keep those packages on h is boat and somebody would come and pick them up. Months went by and nobody picked them up. Eventually everything went wrong those strange packages were explosives and the people smuggling them were terrorists. When Chance’s dad found out he told Chance to go to one of his friends house who was a lawyer. He did as he was told. The Lawyer told the police then they left and got on a helicopter so chance could tell them which boat was there’s. They eventually found it saw the terrorists had taken the boat and Chances dad. His dad was fighting one of the terrorists and through him over board. He looked up at the helicopter at Chance with a smile on his face and then the boat blew up. That’s pretty much the end of the story.

I liked this book a lot. It was one of the best books I have read because it actually help my attention and made me want to read it. When I started reading the book I read the first half in a day and then when I started reading it again I read the other half in a couple days. This was a great book.

Reading Letter #8

This week I read a book called Evermore. In this book, Ever, a teenage girl, has just lost her family in a horrible car wreck. She was the only survivor. Now, Ever lives with her aunt, Sabine, and has to start over her whole life. Only this time, she has a completely new style and attitude towards life. You see, Ever got some special powers after the wreck she and her familywere in. Ever can see peoples auras and know their whole lives story by making contact with them, and to top it all of, she can see and speakto her dead sister. Ever wears horrible hoodies and doesn’t care what other people think, until the new guy Damon came to town. Damonseems to be interested in Ever, but has a weird way of showing it. When she breaks into his house, she finds he may be a little older than she thought, like, hundreds of years.

I like this book because it is a classic vampire story. Ever has gone through many things and every thing in the story just seems to add on to her plate. Nothing seems to go right and she has the weirdest ways of cooping with it. The author has a good way of writing things with out putting to much on the page. The book is an easy read that keeps you wanting to read more. All of the characters are writtennicely and the story line is fun to read about. I also like that the book isn’t like the twilight series and its size. The whole story has a new twist and it is about 600 pages shorter than the other vampire stories. I would recommend this book to twilight fans. That is why i like this book.

Evermore by Alyson Noël

Pg 1-63

Dear Miss Gibson,

I am reading Evermore. It is about a girl named Ever, whose family was killed in a car wreck. She lives through it, and gets special powers, which allow her to hear anyone’s life story by touching them. She hates this gift, because her head is always busy. When she meets Damen, everything changes. When he speaks, or touches Ever, everything in her head goes silent.

This book is very weird. I do not care much for it. It’s really boring because nothing really important has happened in it yet, and I am already pretty far into the book. I don’t like Ever’s attitude, or her friends. She just doesn’t even try to make friends. I’m pretty sure that the whole book is just going to be boring. It will probably be about her liking Damen. I don’t think I’m going to continue to read this book. I do not want to read a book that I won’t enjoy. I enjoy books with action and surprises. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone.

Soup’s Uncle

by Charles robinson

This weekend  I have found a book is called Soup’s Uncle , the title and the picture on the book is very interesting that why I chose this book start to read. Book start, Soup it’s a character in the book , I can’t wait , said Soup . Me too, I told him.I’m real excited, just think bob, it was near to dark, and the two of us wre lying flat on our stomachs high on the edge of a barn roof , a perfect spot . climbing up a long ladder to reach the roof had been spoup’s idea.Fretting about the whereabout of Janice, whose fist could hit like a bullet, made my neck itch and my hands sweat, so i glanced over my shoulder. The gangs that came were the sons of satan, and that all-lady group, the Dusty Angel. I slapped a mosquito. somebodu said that another all-lady group would be attending the berr belly blowout , i said but i don’t guess i can recall their name.As the barn roof wasn’t becoming any softer, soup and i sat up enough to ease out some of our muscle kinks.

In this book it’s not my favorite by i still like it , it’s very easy to read it and not very long, different for other kind of books very interest.

The Old Man and the Sea

pgs. 25-45

Ernest Hemingway

This week as I was sick I continued reading the very intriguing book, “The Old Man and the Sea.” As I’m sure you know if you read my last reading letter, Ernest Hemingway is a very good writer and progressing through the book, I find each page is better than the last. The following 20 pages I read this week, were similar to the first 25. But I think what I read this week focuses on how alone the Old Man is, but I think that that’s the way that he wants to live his life, I think he enjoy’s his life this way because there’s nobody to contribute to the stress of everyday life. Something else that really stood out to me was that, this man, works for what he needs and wants. Like whenever he went out to sea to CATCH HIS DINNER! He caught a marlin and a fish called Albacore. So that’s basically a synopsis/reflection of what was read this week.

This book is very easy to reflect about mainly because it’s got a lot of meaning and heart to it. I really like the old man’s attitude in this book because it’s kind of related to mine. He’s being himself, having fun with life, doing what he wants to do to make a living, but specifically not caring what anybody else thinks of him. There’s a quote that I heard the other day that makes me think of this book and a couple other occurances in my life and it goes like this, “There are Hurricane, Earthquakes, and Tornadoes, and lots of really bad things happen to good people everyday….and sometimes….there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.” This quote reminds me of the story because the old man is a very wise human being. He’s spiritual, and intriguing, fascinating, and smart. This just simply reminds me of something that he would say. Other than that the story was very enlightening and I gess I want to leave you by saying that this book is a great one. If you’re that kind of down to Earth person who likes the coast and the ocean, and tropics, and FISH! Then this book is totally for you…

Reading Letter #7-Jessie

White Witch, Black Curse

Rachel Morgan is a witch working for the FBI. She and her friend Ivy are partners in solving the crime involving Rachel’s boyfriend’s murder. Even though Rachel was there to witness the murder, she was put under a spell. Now, her worst nightmare has come into town and she is not happy. A banshee, or aura sucker, is in town and killing people at a fast rate. Rachel is a messed up witch with memory loss and on a suicide run for this banshee. Will she make it out alive?

In like this book because its a little like tanker girl meets Buffy the vampire. The characters are on their own, and not doing so well. Every second of the book is about Rachel and what mess she can get herself into next. You never know whats going to happen next in the story because its not your average story. The author has a very good way of writing about the  characters and what they feel like inside, but make themselves look like on the outside.

Title: Genetic Fingerprinting

Author: Sally Morgan

Pg 1-84 of 84

This book talked about how every person, except identical twins, has a unique fingerprint. The beginnings of inheritance was first discovered in 1866 by Gregor Mendel when he was working with pea plants. Today, forensic scientist can use genetic fingerprinting to assist in police investigation. DNA can come from tissue, blood, or even the root of one hair. By studying genes, scientists can understand someone’s risk of getting a genetic disorder, such as cystic fibrosis.

In a crime scene investigation, I wonder if a forensic scientist could identify someone that was burnt. This story is important because it will help to make sure murderers and rapists in jail are actually guilty of their crimes. I found it interesting that environmental pollutants can alter a person’s DNA and can be passed on to children. Before I was born, the doctors had to test chromosomes in my amniotic fluid to see if I was going to have Down’s Syndrome…..but I didn’t. I thought this book was informative, but rather boring. The only good things were  it had nice pictures, it was short and had biographies and a glossary in the back. I’d give it 2 stars. If you like the study of genetics, go ahead and read it.
