Reading Letter #3- Taylor Quarter 2- Breaking Dawn

Title: Breaking Dawn

Pages: 1-756

Author: Meyer, Stephenie

I am now finishing the ast part of the book Breaking Dawn. This part of the stoy is written in Bella Swans perspective. When I am reading the Twilight series I have found that Bella’s point of view is my favorite to read. I dont find that I like Jacobs as much as I like reading from Bellas perspective. In the last part of the book Bella has become a vampire and has a half human half vampire baby. In the beginning of this section Bella is still trying to get  a handle on things as a vampire. What she finds out is that she has a natural ability to contain herself from drinking blood of humans. Not only is she about ot do this but they believe that she may be what is known as a sheild.

The trouble begins when Alice has a vision. She sees that the entire Volturi is coming to get the Cullen family. This upsets her greatly and leaves to try to make her visions clearer. She does not return and has left the Cullens confused. Bella feels that she will do what ever she cant o protect her child as well as Edward is there is a battle between the vampires, however they hope that they can explain themselves before a fight breaks out. This is one of my favorite book of the series it has a great story line and keep you wanting to read more.

I have begun to read the second part of the book Breaking Dawn. The part of the book that I am currently reading is in Jacob’s perspective, when you are reading from his perspective it is very different than reading from Bella’s. Jacob is a werewolf  so you read much more about his wolf pack and you see his life instead of Bella’s unless he is with Bella in the book. In the book it is strange that Jacob is such great friends with the vampires but he really only stays for one reason and that is Bella. Jacob also loves Bella just the same as Edward does for her. Jacob would do anything to keep Bella from becoming a vampire.  The vampires do put themselves at risk, when they are near Jacob their powers become less powerful.

I think that Jacob’s portion of the story is interesting in that he is trying to make Bella believe that her choice to become a vampire is wrong. However Bella has made her decision and she is unwilling to change her mind now that she was going to have a child. She is set on Edward. Jacob does endure much pain from Bella, she needs him often but does not feel the same way that he feels for her so he is continually hurt by Bella and her choices to love Edward. I think that this book will continue to get better and become more interesting as the time goes on, I am hoping that Jacob can resolve some of his problems with Bella in the future.

I am reading Breaking Dawn. This book is the last in the series of Twilight. I have read much of the book and have very little left to read. The book is almost split into sections. These sections are written from different characters points of view, such as Jacob and Bella’s point of views. I like the way that the book was created that way, it gives you a chance to see every perspective of the book. I think that this book is very interesting and keeps you on your toes. The writer has great description and tells a great story.

I think that the series will continue to grow in popularity, it is a great read and is very easy to get lost in the books. The first part of breaking dawn begins with the a big plot. Bella has found that she is pregnant by Edward the vampire. This rises some questions and challenges for both Bella and Edward and leaves them with little choices. I think that the plot is well written and really starts the book off well. would recommend this series to anyone. It has a great story line and the characters are discribed well. I have really enjoyed reading the first section of Breaking Dawn.

Tadpole

Ruth White

196/196

This book is about the Collin’s sisters that are all named after states. Their names are Kentucky, Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. The book takes place in 1955 in a rural community. This book is all about the adventures that Collin, his sisters and their cousin Tadpole have. Tadpole comes to live with them because,  before he moved there he was living with his abusive uncle. If you want to know more you should read it.

This book wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. I found it really boring and i didn’t know whether or not to continue. Part of the reason I didn’t like it was because of the fact that it was a girl book. One thing I did like about it, is that I learned how tough the times were back then and how abusive people were. I think this would make a great movie because of the plot, characters, and the climax. The characters were very fun loving and some parts of the book were funny and some sad. This book also makes you appreciate how much better life is now than then. Even though the book itself wasn’t all that great I still learned a lot from  it, and would recommend it to most people our age(13-14).

Playing For Pizza

John Grisham

258/258 Pages

A couple of weeks go by and not much happens in Parma, Italy. When the Panthers go on a little losing streak Rick decides that he needs to pull the team together. They have 4 games left and must win all of them, one is against the best team in the league, Bergamo. They also have no more Americans besides Rick, because they have both been injured. Rick has a solution though. A hotshot Italian kid named Fabrizio will play if he gets paid, but none of the other Italians get paid. The team owner also doesn’t want to spend any more money. Rick offers to pay him part of his salary, but the owner comes around and pays Fabrizio to play. They smoke the next three teams with Fabrizio, but the next team is Bergamo. Bergamo’s best player isn’t an American, he’s an Italian guy named Maschi who has kind of a “me-first” attitude. He hits extremely hard and is ruthless.

Back to Rick’s personal life, he finally breaks up with Gabriella an meets a new girl from the U.S. She is a college foreign exchange student who is studying art. When Rick meets her they are in a coffee shop in the city of Florence. She and her friends made a bet on if Rick was waiting for a girl or not. The truth was that he was waiting for Gabriella, but she was over an hour late so he decides to dump her and take the girl instead. The girls name is Livvy and she has parents in Georgia who are in the middle of a nasty divorce so Livvy is thinking about staying in Italy. Her and Rick move in together and start to get in a serious relationship.

Back to football Rick is playing the Bergamo Lions. As I’ve told you Maschi is they’re best player. He plays middle linebacker. The Panthers come up with a devious play called “Kill Maschi”. They leave a big hole for Maschi to come through the middle and then Franco the full back plows him over like a steam roller. The play work and Maschi is out until halftime, which gives the Panthers time to build a lead. They’re ahead by a touchdown, but by the third quarter they’re down by 7 points. The Panthers end up winning and break the Lions’ perfect win streak that was 5 years long. The Panthers go to the playoffs and win the Superbowl against Bergamo, of course.

Rick and Livvy develop a strong serious relationship and both stay in Parma through the next year. Rick faces the decision of leaving Parma and going to play for a team in Canada or stay and lead the Panthers to the playoffs again. Rick decides to stay, because he thinks of the Panthers as family not just teammates.

The author of this book John Grisham visited Parma and found that there actually is a Parma Panthers and he gets to meet the team and visits their stadium. The Panthers get really excited to hear that a book was written about them. The Italians don’t play for money like Americans, but for the fun of the game like it should be played.

I really enjoyed this book and I liked how he based it off a real team that played, because they loved the game not, because they loved their paycheck. I also didn’t know that there was an Italian football league and how so many washed up american players go to play over seas.  I would recommend this book to anyone that loves to read books by John Grisham, the book doesn’t just teach you about football, but it also teaches you about life. It is a very good book and it is worth reading.

Wicked- By Sara Shepard

Pages: 310/310

I have recently finished the book Wicked. It is the fifth book in the Pretty Little Liars Series. Many big things happened since my last reading letter. Spencer’s family had big banquet party at their house. This was right after Ian Thomas was accused for killing Ali. He was supposed to come to a trial, but missed it. He then went missing. At the party all of the girls got notes from “A” that lured them all outside into the woods. Spencer went out first, and while she was gone nobody could find her, so the other three went outside to try. When they finally found her, she showed them what she had found in the woods. She found Ian Thomas, dead.

That was the end of the book. I really enjoyed most parts of the book. The middle got kind of boring in parts, but the ending was amazing. Ian Thomas dying was a big deal, and that really made me want to read the next book in the series. I have some questions though. Who killed Ian and why? Who is sending the A notes, now that Ian is dead? Did Ian really kill Ali? When they went out into the woods, I thought that Ian might be out there alive and trying to hurt them. I am glad that they didn’t die because that would really twist up the story. Again, I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anybody!

People of Sparks

213/338

Jeanne DuPrau

I read pages 1-213 of the book The People of Sparks, by Jeanne DuPrau. The book is about Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, who in the book before this, The City of Ember, save their people and lead them to the village of Sparks, a village that has just started growing since the Disaster happened. So far I really like the book. Jeanne DuPrau is a great author. I loved The City of Ember, so I thought I would give this book a try. DuPrau shows some hints of foreshadowing. For instance, early in the book, Doon finds a book called Science Projects, which has a project on how to create electricity. I took a peak at the last few pages, and somehow, Torren, one of the main characters, gets a light bulb and Doon creates the electricity machine, so there can be light. I suspected that would happen, and I was correct.

I also liked how DuPrau put the book into a future setting, but it is not like the future that we expect. People are poor and homeless, and there is hardly any technology. DuPrau also picked the characters well. Making opposites becoming best friends was a great idea. I would give this book a nine point five out of ten. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Jeanne DuPrau or who has read the city of ember series.

Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress

Tina Ferraro

159/222

Jared’s car had been smashed in with a bat and kicked and dented. The only person to do this? Rascal. Nicki left Jared a note and they later met up. They discussed who did this, and both agreed only rascal would do that. They also discussed how everyone now thought that Jared was dating Nicki and they thought he was “getting some” from her. So they decided they need to clear up the rumors before she gets a bad reputation. Nicki also found out that Kylie and Rascal never really broke up, but Rascal heard the rumor about jared and Nicki and wanted to see if he could get Nicki in bed. But it was a waste of his time.

I was really surprised when I read this part, because I didn’t expect the book to exactly be about 2 boys fighting over Nicki. But even though it is about that, I still enjoy the book and hope to finally finish it soon. I think Nicki will end up with jared and get to wear the dress she wanted to the year before!

Eclipse

Stephinie Meyer

Finished

This book was super freaking cool. I really liked this book because even though it’s kinda a girly book I really liked it because there was a lot of action and fight scenes in it. At the beginning of the book Edward an Bella’s relationship is getting back on track, because in the previous book New Moon Edward had abandoned Bella because he thought he was putting her in too much danger and that if he left her she would get over him and start back with her normal life. So anyway they’re getting there relationship back on track, but also in New Moon Bella had found a sort of sanctuary in her best friend Jacob, and Jacob’s tribe is enemies with the Cullen’s, so after Edward returns Bella has to almost choose which one is more important, but I’m not gonna give away the entire story. I really enjoyed this book because not every book is as diverse as this one, because there are so many different ways you can interpret this book. Also this book can be read by either male or female, so really this is one of the best books written in my opinion. This series is definitely one of the best ever written and my favorite.

Public Affairs Habit 2- Begin With the End in Mind

Each of us had to read about a different “habit” for public affairs and my habit was Habit 2-Begin With the End in Mind. I decided to do a reading letter on it because it was really long and it also had a good meaning. Begin with the end in mind refers to thinking ahead before you make your decisions. In the article it talked about different ways to think ahead and ways to map out your future as well as making the right decisions for you in the long run.

Part of the article talked about the crossroads of life and how it is important to ask yourself simple questions like “do i want to go to college and grad school?” or “do I want to try out for this team?” You can make a list of questions like these to better understand what you really want and what you really NEED in order to be successful and work to your full potential.

A part of getting through the crossroads of life and being successful is to map out your goals and write them down. You can do this many ways including through poems or just writing in a journal. This is a very smart thing to do and it is also important. Everyone should begin with the end in mind.
