3rd Quarter Reading Letter #3-Mason

Boy in Striped Pajamas
John Boyne

A young German boy named Bruno is forced to move to a concentration camp because his father is the man in charge of Auschwitz. He is bored out of his mind, he eventually meets a young jewish boy named Shmuel who is being held captive inside the camp. Bruno goes under the fence to help Shmuel find his father. Bruno and Shmuel were then put in a gas chamber.

This book was very good, but sad at the same time. This book was a very easy read, but the material wouldn’t be suitable for a fourth grader. The amazing thing about Bruno was that he was so naive and oblivious. He had so many misconceptions about how the Jews were being treated and the situation. He thought that Auschwitz was Out-With, Hitler was the Fury, fenced in area was a farm. He thought that the Jewish people were treated fine and with respect.

  1. I like the way you gave a summary of the book first and then gave more in-depth info about the main character. Some people do it the other way around and it is confusing.
