A Halloween Memory

Halloween is one of the best times of the year. You get to go to haunted houses, wear gory costumes, and get lots of candy. But I did something different right before Halloween. My friend, Brandon, and his dad, Jerry and I went to the Rutledge-Wilson corn maze with the intent of scaring kids. It was 8 p.m. on a Saturday night. Thousands of stalks of corn, taller than Abraham Lincoln, surrounded us. Everything was dark with the exception of two bright lights on each corner of the maze. The three of us walked up to the entrance and slapped our money on the table. Since we didn’t want them to know what we were up to, Jerry stuffed our masks into his jacket. He looked like a wrestler. The money takers didn’t seem to recognize the ‘extra padding’ and let us in. Once inside, we put on our scary masks. Brandon was Chucky the doll, his dad was Michael Myers and I was the Grim-Reaper. We hid in the corn then jumped out when kids walked by. Some laughed, some screamed and some wanted their photos taken with us. They asked us how much we got paid to scare people. I didn’t know we could get paid for this.

Brandon and I went off on our own. Before long, we heard a piercing scream. We ran toward it to see what the matter was. Apparently Jerry had scared a little girl too much. She cried her head off and the two of them left to report us to management. We heard the mother talking to the employees yelling “There is a fricken guy in there who just scared my daughter, STOP HIM NOW!” The manager entered the corn maze. Jerry stayed and talked to the manager, but Brandon and I ran to hide. The corn crunched and cracked around us and our breathing became rapid. We reached the plastic orange fencing toward the back of the maze, panting loudly. Soon we heard Jerry calling our names, “Kodi! Brandon!” We started walking over to him, knowing that our night had come to an end. Yes, we got kicked out, but it made for a great memory. We’re ready to do it again next year.

  1. Kodi,
I liked reading this writing and thought it was really funny. I hope to hear more about it, but for right now the only area of improvement I see in this piece are maybe some grammar errors hear and there. Great Piece!
    Thanx,
    Riley
