Book- Duh! The Stupid History of the Human Race

Author- Bob Fenster

Pages- 276/276

The book Duh! The Stupid History of the Human Race is about stupid things people have done in the past. Some of these things are just common sense and some just flat out backfired on people. This book was very entertaining, because of the humor the author includedin the stories. I liked how the book was set up to where one chapter was a broad topic with a bunch of funny stories long or short scattered throughout it.

The first story that I found most interesting was in the first chapter there was a chapter about just general stupid things people have done. The story is about a man who was fed up with the government and to prove his point attempted to commit suicide. At first it completely backfired on him. He was going to jump off a cliff, plus he tied a really long rope around his neck, poisoned himself, held a loaded gun to his head and lit himself on fire right before he jumped. He fired the gun to shoot himself and missed hitting the rope causing him to fall into the ocean below, which put out the flames and he was so shocked when he fell to the water he vomitted the poison. So he was now just floating in the very cold ocean where he was picked up by fishermen after about 30 minutes and was taken to the hospital. He later died that night of hypothermia due to being in the cold water for too long.

The next story was in the chapter called It Sounded Like a Good Idea at the Time. An anti-drug group in New York City handed out pencils at local high schools that said “Too Cool to Do Drugs!”. Sounds like a good idea right, think again. The group must have thought people would not use the pencils, because when kids actually used them every time the pencil was sharpened the message on the pencil would read something totally different. After sharpened a couple of time the pencils read “Cool to Do Drugs!”. Then after a while they got down to where the message just plain and simple said “Do Drugs!”.

This just proves how dumb people can be and how much dumber people who believe them are. This book was filled with funny stories and it was a very entertaining book. The stories aren’t extremely long so you can read a chapter of the book in close to 10 minutes. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs and good laugh or needs a relatively quick book for a reading letter.
