Broken Umbrella-Final

Boston

By:Abby Flanders

Salty air, creaky boardwalks, and mouth-watering fish. That’s what Boston means to me. For my moms birthday we went to the East Coast. My all time favorite place was Boston. We wondered around aimlessly and found a souvenir shop, where my mom bought a sweatshirt, and then we tried to find something to eat. We walked by a place called the Littlest Bar, which turned out to best restaurant ever. On the outside it looked a little sketchy with a sign that read “Boston’s Best Clam Chowder”. Skeptical, we walked in and ordered two bowls. It honestly was. My mom and I kept our favorite restaurant our little secret and headed on. We started towards the Freedom Walk, which is a walk throughout Boston that tells the stories about its past.

We went to the site were Paul Revere hung the lanterns and trudged though pouring rain. As we trekked along, we heard a bang. We turned around and started laughing. Our umbrella flipped inside out! Lining the sidewalks were umbrellas of all colors that had been blown away too. Along the red line that marked the Freedom Walk were other historical landmarks like where the massacre occurred and a huge navy seal ship that we got to tour. We finished the walk and headed back to the Hotel. We slept and got up the next morning. We hopped onto a train and headed to our next destination.

  1. When I read the first sentence it made me want to go to Boston. Throught the whole story it was very interesting and descriptive. I thought it was very good.

  2. Abby,
Was this just you and your mom? It sounds like just the two of you from how your begin your story. I love the three details you begin the piece with: salty air, creaky boardwalks, and mouth-watering fish. Good way to start! Those of us who have been there can picture it well. The sentence with the souvenir shop was a little confusing. It almost sounds like you say your mom bought a sweatshirt and a restaurant! What do you mean by the umbrellas lining the sidewalk? What hotel did you stay in?
