Shane made his high school baseball team as a closing pitcher which is what he was at Shorelake. Shane thought they were going to be really bad but up until they played Shane’s old school they were undefeated so which meant they were about 6-0. Shane’s team was down vs Shorelake by 10 when Shane went into pitch in the 7nth inning he got 2 quick outs and then Reese Robertson stepped up to bat, Reese moved into Shane’s old house and is the best hitter in the state. Shane got him 0-2 with two good outside pitches after the 2 outside Reese was expecting another outside pitch but Shane came inside but lost control of the pitch and hit Reese in the face and he had to go to the hospital. I think Shane was scared to throw his hardest the next couple games and he lost those for his team.

I am really glad Shane made the baseball team so he can stay out of trouble and get new friends and maybe go to college. I think it was good for Shane to be a part of a winning team so he is at least a little happy. I am very happy for his little sister who found a friend across the street and instead of going up to her room all the time she goes over to her friends. Reese was the best player in the state so I really hope that he gets back so he can play in college or even the MLB but they said he will be okay but never said when or if he can play again . I also really hope Shane gets back into a groove so his team can start winning again and maybe get into the playoffs. I also hope Shane can get a scholarship to help his mom out and get out of his situation. My prediction for the end of the book is that Shane’s team will play Shorelake in the State Championship.

  1. Hey Chance,
It’s so good to see characters beginning to fit in and find a place for themselves. We all need that, in fact! Sports can be just the thing for many kids and even adults to draw them out of isolation.
