Reading Letter #6 – Hallie Sutton

Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony

Eoin Colfer

Pg. 1-pg. 344

The Lost Colony is the fourth book in the Artemis Fowl series.  I love this series so much!  Artemis Fowl is a young Irish boy (between 12 and 14 years old, depending on the book you’re reading).  Oh yeah, and he’s a genius!  Basically, all the books are just about these fantastic schemes he gets into to.  And how he gets out of them.  In the first book, he learns of the existence of fairies and captures one.  Though by the end he is on at least good terms with most of the fairies.  In the current book I’m reading, Artemis meets another genius, 12-year old Minerva.  He, Minerva, Butler, and several of his fairy friends have to save the lost colony (I won’t tell you what it is, or who lives there because that would spoil it)!

I really enjoyed this book because through the series you see as Artemis evolves.  In the beginning all he cares about is gold and gaining more wealth (he’s a billionaire).  But, by this book he is able to seem normal, despite his giant brain.  I just like all the technical talk and cool inventions too!  You learn a lot from Artemis Fowl!  Eoin Colfer writes chapters from different character’s perspectives and you really feel as if you are standing next to the person (or fairy)!  All in all, READ ARTEMIS FOWL!
