Reading Letter 3 for 2nd Quarter- Kelley

Book: The Titan’s Curse

Author: Rick Riordan

Pages: 312/312

I read the third book in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. In the beginning of this book, Artemis, goddess of the hunt, and all of her huntresses slay a monster that is about to kill Percy. Percy Jackson is a half human, half greek god. He is the son of Poseidon, the Sea god. Percy got into trouble when he was trying to save another half-blood from a military school to bring to Camp Half-Blood when this happened. Percy was with his friends Annabeth, daughter of Athena, Thalia, daughter of Zeus, and Grover, a half-goat half-human guy. Annabeth was taken down with the monster, though. Percy, son of Poseidon, takes the hunters and the two half-bloods he rescued back to camp. Artemis wouldn’t go because she had some monster to hunt.

Back at Camp Half-Blood, Zoë, a huntress, has a dream that Artemis is in trouble. So she is granted a quest to leave camp and pick a few people to go with her. She picks Thalia, Grover, and Bianca di Angelo. Bianca is one of the half-bloods that Percy rescued. She pledged her life to Artemis and became a huntress. Percy wants to go also, so he ignores camp rules and follows them. The other half-blood that he rescued, Nico di Angelo, makes him promise to keep Bianca safe. Percy makes the promise and leaves.

Percy follows them Zoë, Thalia, and Bianca on their quest by flying on a Pegasus. Later, after he finds out Atlas, one of the Titans, he joins up with them and helps them on their quest. Eventually they figure out where she and Annabeth are, they are being held hostage by an old friend, Luke. Luke used to be nice, but then he started helping the old Titan lord, Kronos, in coming back to life. They have a battle on the top of Mount Tam with Atlas, Luke, and an army of monsters. Mount Tam is where the mountain where the Titans used to have their sacred temple where Atlas used to hold up the sky. Artemis had been holding up the sky, and Annabeth had been held hostage. Finally after a long battle they escape by tricking Atlas into holding up the sky again, and Luke falls 50 feet off a cliff. Luke’s fall scared his army of monsters into running away, but he didn’t die because of the curse that Kronos had put on him. Then they rescue Artemis and Annabeth, but Bianca di Angelo died. Because Bianca died, Nico felt that Percy had broken his promise and ran away.

I really liked this book because it followed up on the cliffhanger left in The Sea of Monsters. I also like the storyline of all these books a lot because they are really interesting and funny. Learning about the Greek gods is also cool, too. I like how all the Greek gods are incorporated into the storyline, and how they act when they come in contact with a half-blood. This author’s writing style is great because it’s easy to read and keeps you from putting the book down. This book never gets boring, all the scenes are climatic and action-packed.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic fantasy.

  1. Kelley,

This is a very good reading letter. Maybe next time look for punctuation marks. Good job.
