Reading Letter #4- Anna T- quarter 3

Go Ask Alice
Anonymous

I am reading the book, Go Ask Alice, it is anonymous so there is no author. It is about a girl named Alice who gets involved in the world of drugs. She moved from her home town to go to a different town for her dad’s job. She didn’t really have any friends until she met a girl named Gerta. Gerta was weird and a misfit, Alice didn’t really get along with her. She then met her new neighbor, Beth. They were instantly best friends. Beth is Jewish and lives a faithful life. Alice was really interested in her faith and the way Beth lives so they grew closer and closer. Alice was forced to go to her grandparents over the summer in her old town, while Beth had to go to a Jewish summer camp. When Alice was there, she was invited to parties with the “popular” kids. At her first party, someone put LSD into Alice’s soda. She wrote in her diary that it was the most “amazing feeling in the world.” During the summer, Alice started using more and more drugs, becoming less resistant towards them. This is where I stopped in the book, but I am looking forward to read more.

This book is very different then most books. Instead of being written in regular form, the whole book is just diary entries. Alice writes about her feelings and how drugs affected her. Instead of writing bad stuff about drugs, like most people say today, she writes about the amazing things she sees and feels. I personally don’t think drugs are the answer to problems, but that’s just me. I am looking forward to reading more of this book and seeing how Alice deals with more drugs.

  1. Good description with the summary, but you may want to add more on your thoughts and also add a paragraph, because it starts to become one long page of writing. Good job with description!

  2. Anna,
This is a very good reading letter. You explained the book well, and wrote a lot of your thoughts on the book. You could have added a few more, but it was very good.
    Anna M.
