Law in the 21st century

The world has always had difficulties. Everyone has always had disagreements. It is our job as a nation to live with equal justice for all. Instead of looking at that person next to you and judging them because their skin is a different color than yours, we as Americans should smile at them and treat them with respect. Instead of being mad that that person has a different religion as you, we as Americans should respect them instead.
Slavery was a difficult time for many African Americans in the world. During this time many people were not treated equal. Slavery is a form of forced labor in which people are considered to be the property of others. Many slaves were separated from their families and friends. A slave was someone who was controlled by other people without receiving pay. Slaves were forced to clean, cook, sew, or do what their owners told them to do. If the slaves said no or did not do their job they were beaten, starved or in some states the owners were allowed to kill the slaves. Some slaves escaped through underground railroads. An underground railroad was a secret system in the Northern U.S states used to help escaping slaves. An estimated amount of 40,000 to 100,000 used this network.
Some people felt bad that slaves were treated the way they were treated, so they would buy a slave or slaves and take them to their home. There were many dangers of helping slaves, but some people risked the dangers. They would help the slaves and treat them the way they should be treated. If people were caught for helping the slaves there was a serious punishment. Some punishments received were they were beaten, hurt, locked up, and sometimes even killed.
Racial segregation is a separation of different racial groups. This was applied to different activities eating in a restaurant, using a water fountain, going to school, going to the movies, using the bathroom, and much more. People used to treated wrong just because of the color of their skin. They were yelled at, had things thrown at them, and all they wanted was to be treated with respect. There were certain rules that the African Americans had to follow if they did not follow these rules, this would result in jail. There were many different leaders that would lead marches and speeches asking for these rights. A very famous speaker Marten Luther King Jr. he led many of the African American people through the civil rights movement. He had a very famous speech called “I have a dream” that inspired many people. On April 4, 1968 he was assassinated for trying to fight for equality. In 1968 there were laws past against segregation in the U.S. Even though Marten Luther King was not there to see the laws passed, his dream came true.
The term women’s right refers to freedom to all women of any age. Women used to not have the same rights as men. They were not able to vote, to hold public office, to work, to own property, to serve in the military, to have religious rights and to enter legal contracts. The women were very upset that they were not able to have the same rights. It was not fair, just because some people think women were worthless they were not. The women were not going to just stand there and agree with this. They did something about it they held meetings, they marched, and they signed contracts. There work paid off, on August 26, 1920 the 19th amendment of the constitution, granting the women the right to vote was signed by secretary of state Bainbridge Colby.
Many Americans treat people differently on the basis of their race, religion, clothing, and the amount of money they have. Some people are very rude and mean to people just for these small reasons that have nothing to do with what kind of person they are on the inside. Why does it matter what the person looks like on the outside, or what they do? People should accept people for who they are on the inside, not what they represent on the outside. Everyone is created equal, everyone should be treated equal. Even though someone may be different then you they still deserve respect. Everyone deserves respect. If you can’t treat someone with respect then you have no respect for yourself. I believe everyone should be treated with respect. Treat people the way you want to be treated, if you want to be treated with respect then treat others with it also.
So many people even today live without equality, or respect from others to live. Without equality it would be hard to live, because everyone would be treated poorly. If someone makes a choice that you don’t, you still have to treat the person with respect. That does not mean that you have to agree with them it just means they deserve to be treated kind. Respect everyone in the world, everyone is their own person, they deserve to live their life they want to. Everyone needs to be treated with respect and equality.
