Blue Blankie
Blue and new
I loved
My blanket
My constant companion
To the car
To get a snack
To the mall
To ride my bike
And to my bed
It was not yellow
It was not red
Not purple
Nor green
But blue
And old. . .
Once a deep, sea blue
Now a light, translucent sapphire
The strings were ripped
And had holes in the corners
But I could still smell
The love
I could feel it
Taste it
Sense it
See it. . .
You could see its holes
Its rips
Its faded color
But how I loved
My blanket
Its comfort
Its warmth
Its safety
Its love
And I will
Never let go
To the blanket
I love so
The stanza breaks didn’t publish
