Dear, Ms. Gibson

My Side of the Mountain

Page 33 to page 91

Summary: When Sam gets used to living out in the wild he decides that he wants a friend. So, he goes off to catch a pet falcon, he then trains the birds to come to him and bring him food. Sam’s clothing starts to fall apart so he is trying to catch a deer and use its fur to make more clothing. Sam is just walking in the woods to check his traps when he hears sirens going off that are close to him, he goes and hides for a couple of hours. When he comes back there is a dirty man sleeping right by his shelter.

Response: I think that the man sleeping outside his shelter is a man that is running away from the police. Sam described this man as dirty, torn up clothes, and having an unshaven beard. This could mean that he has been running away for a long time. This man could bring trouble to Sam but he probably needs help if he was just waiting for whoever lived in the shelter to come back home. I hope that Sam will become friends with him so that he isn’t as lonely. I loved this part of the book because I think this will be a couple of very interesting chapters.

Sincerely, Quana Alaimo

  1. Hey Quana,
I loved the part about him capturing the falcon. He definitely needs a friend. Do you wonder why the dirty guy is running from the police?
