Hello Ms. Gibson

A Young People’s History of America

The chapters that I read consist of the American Revolution and the Founding Fathers. This section of the book details how different minority groups dealt with the revolution. For example, one of the chapters details the art that women played in the American Revolution, often set aside to cook food or do handiwork.

I really like this book because it backs up what it says with evidence, usually in the form of quotes or excerpts from documents and statements written in the past. I also like that the author often tries to look at events from the past in as many angles as possible. For example, when describing the founding fathers and how the constitution was written and formed, he said that all of the founding fathers were rich white men and didn’t think very much of the lower classes when they wrote the constitution. The author goes into detailed descriptions of various historical events while also not making it difficult to understand or boring to read.
