The Impossible Journey
By Gloria Whelan
Pages: 248/248

In “The Impossible Journey”, Russia is where the communist government rules. Anyone who opposes the government is executed or sent to exile in the Siberian wilderness. Despite these consequences, Misha and Katya speak out against the government, and are arrested, leaving Georgi and Marya, their children, alone in the city. Marya and Georgi escape the city and start a journey to find their parents in the Siberian wilderness. On their journey they encounter evil people, bears, a kind doctor and his family, the native Samoyeds, and many other people who oppose the government as well but they do it in secret.

This book was phenomenal. It was a very easy read but I enjoyed it because it was a bold adventure in an exotic territory and you could see the tremendous love that compels the kids to find their parents especially considering they are alone. I read this when I was younger so I would definitely recommend it to younger kids but even reading now, I still really enjoyed it.
