Reading Letter #2 Qtr.3-Kelsey

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

By Ann Brashares

This book is about four friends, Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen. They don’t have much in common except their birthdays are all around the same time, in the end of the summer. Their moms all took an aerobics class together right before they were born. Since then these four girls have spent as much time together as possible. This summer is different though they will spend it apart from each other in different parts of the USA and even Europe. There is a pair of pants that Carmen has lying around that somehow fit all of them. They call them the traveling Pants. The Pants go to all the places and seem to bring magic to all of the girls in the sisterhood. They first go to Lena who is staying Greece with her grandparents. Here she meets a guy and with the help of the Pants, she can overcome her fear of talking to him. Then they go to Tibby who is staying home. She is working at a local store Wallmans. She runs into many difficulties while working here. She meets a girl with leukemia and starts to spend time with her. The Pants help her through a tough time when this little girl, Bailey, dies. The Pant then travel to Carmen who is visiting her dad for the first time in awhile. She is taken by surprise when she finds out he is soon to get married and lives in a big house with kids. She is surprised and very upset, so the Pants help her through this time of trouble. Finally the pants end up with Bridget in a soccer camp in Mexico. Here she falls in love with the coach and is happy to have the Pants to help her through her time of sadness for knowing she can’t be in love with him.

This book was wonderful! I loved how there were little quotes in between chapters and I love how it was set up to go between each girl and help them. I would love to have friends like that who are so close. I couldn’t put the book down because there was always a new and exciting event. I have seen the movie and it is really good and a lot like the book, I have also seen the second Sisterhood movie but I haven’t read the book and I really want to. These are great stories and I would recommend it to anyone.
