Doon and Lina are two 13 year olds, who have to draw a job to work at. Doon draws messenger and Lina draws pipeworks. Each are not happy with their jobs, so they swap. Ember soon runs out of power, Doon and Lina have to figure out how to save the city.

At the beginning of the book it is a little hard to get into. Later on it gets interesting. Doon and Lina find out a deep secret about Ember. Doon and Lina try to escape Ember and figures out the mayor has a secret that would expose Ember. Doon finds a group of secret tunnels. To find out more you’ll have to read the book yourself. Before I read the book I wondered if Doon and Lina would switch jobs. I wondered if they would learn a way out of Ember. I was wondering what twist there would be.
